what matters more – stockholm syndrome

derek
back in may i posted (which has landed more searches on my blog than anything else i’ve posted since i started blogging a few years ago) about some mystery around derek webb’s new ablum.  here’s the single (ht mike todd) that appears to be creating part of the uneasiness. you can gain some more insight here from bryan allain. all very interesting. i’m thinking there’s a theme developing here today…let’s all…as Christ followers wrestle with what does matter more?

Update://stephen lamb  was at a gathering saturday july 4th (an appropriate date), at The Rutledge in nashville where Derek Webb played a one hour documentary on the making of this new album…you can read about the evening here.  i’m wondering if we really are at a new place in the Story?  stay tuned.  btw you can pre-order derek webb’s  new work -the stockholm syndrome on tuesday 7/7. watch his website for more info.

freedom…a couple of thoughts…

here’s a couple of thoughts i meandered through today…on the 5th of July.  one is a clip that (ht rudy) pointed to regarding U2′s concert last week in barcolena.   During friday nite’s performance U2 played their hit “Sunday Bloody Sunday” –which is about British troops who shot and killed civil rights marchers in Ireland –and while they sang green light covered the stage and Farsi lyrics ran across the screens in support of the freedom marchers in iran. one more reason i am a U2 fan.

and then i stumbled on this clip from a few years back at TED with an amazing insightful talk by andrew mwenda that is a useful reminder to all and especially  americans…the responsibility that comes with our greatness as a nation and that we must understand charity or aid correctly.  i think there’s some more thinking that our folks in washington need to do as we are in the midst of re-inventing goverment.  worth the watch.

stand and effect change-trusting the decision~palin

this is really interesting.  gov. palin is clear about her sound priorities.  she also asks her friends ad supporters to trust the decision…no more politics as usual. this is can be very good…and her understanding about serving something greater than self.  much like other great leaders she understand more clearly than many give her credit about the art of the political craft.  a reminder, it was 1964 when a nationally-televised speech by ronald reagan - a time for choosing launched him on the journey to become our nation’s 40th president.  this speech was given in support of then presidential candidate barry goldwater.  here’s clip..

you and i have a rendezvous with destiny.  we can preserve for our children this, the last best hope on earth, or we can sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness.  if we fail, at least let our children, and our children’s children, say of us we justified our brief moment here.  we did all that could be done.  from Governor Reagan by Lou Cannon

it took another 16 years to cement reagan’s true place as our 40th president. his leadership was exactly what was needed in our nations unfolding story. i think, as palin gave her announcement on the eve of our nation’s independence i heard similar echoes. there is a story yet unfolding for her place in history.  it will be interesting to watch.

balloon fest 09

DSCN0048always enjoy the celebration of our independence.  in our hometown, a ongoing tradition is the balloon fest with some 20+ plus hot air balloons showing up and doing their stuff.  a fun thing is the annual balloon glow.  the balloons are tethered and they pull the burner cord and simply light up the night sky.  a great way to begin saying happy birthday america!
