what is the future?

spoke on social media yesterday to a group of about 35 local non-profit directors. interesting dialogue. and of course this morning i bumped into john saddington’s post over at www.churchcrunch.com on “trillions are the future.” not sure any of us really understand where this is going,  I always gravitate to the newest edition of “did you know” video.  it always helps to set the tone of the tech world we live in.

but i appreciate the challenge of this second video from john that helps to set the larger picture with some encouragement to make sure we really see how we need to spend some time thinking through how we’re going to get to the next big mountain. there were many sidebars yesterday after the talk. one in particular with a director of a state funded program. the frustration of a bloated and uncaring bureaucracy that wants to build systems that are totally ineffective because of the roll out time from design to bid to implementation.  in the midst of the economic realignment that’s happening and the reality of lives that need intervention right now. interesting stuff.

welcome home a veteran…

as providence would have it on this sunday we celebrate the good work of our veterans…this video was suggested for week 5 of 40 days of love.  we’re using it tonite to push forward the idea that love is selfless.  if you know a veteran, show them this week how much you appreciate their sacrifice.

a little rhythm at story 09

day one of story 09 was filled with many cool experiences beyond the good teaching of the presenters.  mid afternoon  jamie poindexter’s KAOTIC drumline from chicago’s southside rocked it. you can learn more about their story on youtube, Facebook or myspace they sure got everyone’s attention and connection.  enjoy.

community trade:drink coffee. do good.

at story 09 there were many good folks.  had a chance to have a great conversation with erin leigh patterson about the amazing work the land of a thousand hills coffee is doing to take their passion about coffee and leveraging it for  a larger purpose.

they take our act of consumption and use it to make a difference through social justice and cultivating a third place community.  they have invested in a post-genocide nation and helped to establish Rwandan coffee communities so they can become a vibrant picture of opportunity and sustainability.  so cool.
