we’re getting close on the next album release . i’ve shared it here before. the elms are beyond amazing. i’ve known these guys for more than decade and their music is good for you soul. great hearts all! this album is going rock! grab the widget and add them to your network. you can follow them on twitter too.
our mother ship, berean baptist church put on a large addition about 18 months ago. one element was a new youth area. since may of last year scott finn a volunteer has lead the effort to create a music venue for mostly indie bands called wired. for the last 15 months, almost every other weekend wired has hosted three – four young bands. it has grown to become one of the best things that north central ohio has to offer high school and college students as a healthy, enjoyable place to connect on the weekends. recently they hosted everyday sunday for their newest cd release…best night of our lives.
everyday sunday on stage at wired. (note that's scott finn in the lower left working on some cabling issues during the concert)
this past weekend was the finals of the 2009 ultimate talent challenge. i got a chance to serve as judge. although i’m not a musician by any stretch, i do appreciate those that take the craft seriously. so it was so cool to see 5 young bands from screamo to ballad to punk to rock and roll take the craft seriously and engage. here’s video wrap-up.
so em and i hit up the 12:01 am show of xgames 3D. we got to the theater…(em drove). actually i bought our tickets online just to make sure we’d get them without any hassle. we pulled in to the parking lot…about 11:35pm. hmmm…lots of cars…retrieve the tickets from the atm…go and stand in line. dang…long line. glad we got here early. lots of commotion. 11:57pm the ticket taker takes our tickets and says…last door on the left. we walk past the entire line of folks and realize they are all there for an entirely different movie..REALLY? so we get to the last door and we ended up having the entire theater to ourselves. amazing. xgames 3d is a great flick. lots of leadership principles on taking risk and staying in the mix. there are several amazing stories of these amazing atheletes staying in the competition..even with a broken foot or almost a concussion, and yet because of the one opportunity to push themselves and their peers to a whole new level..they stay in it. in the midst of an incredible 3d experience…and just a lot of amazing eye candy video…there’s some things to take away.
ricky carmichael makes the statement:
in those moments when most people say…
i can’t …
they say…self perservation
they say “what if”… (you might get hurt?)
we say…what if…the other way…what if “it”… is possible?
xgames3d is worth the time. and btw if you click on the link above and then click on media tab you’ll find 3 songs from the soundtack as a gift from the good folks at ESPN.
also it was really fun to see kyle loza practicing in the shadow of saddleback church…and you’ll want to check out kyle’s web presence here. fun stuff. oh yeah…this playing for only 1 week. don’t miss it.
tuesday is the “natal anniversary” (per mr. z @ wcrf) of alan root. i’ve known alan for about 12 years now. he’s become a good friend and i’ve enjoyed watching him grow in his place in the Kingdom. he has such an amazing heart and is able to empower so many to step deeper into the Story and find their place. he’s newest work, the maker and the master (you can click the link to hear it) came today. in fact it was a creative invite to a cd release party right in my own office at the outpost. and you know what?
invite to his cd release party
i’ve already given away my copy…i mean that’s what you do with something that’s this good. so a “tribe” of young boys are dancing their hearts out as i type. so cool. so i’d heartily encourage you to do three things today…head over and take a listen yourself and sign up for his newsletter. you can also drop by his blog and leave a comment (maybe he’ll blog a little more often if he knows we’re interested) and tell him how grateful so many are for his ministry to the “tweeners” and how even as adults we find his music a blessing. alan root is still a great secret.
welcome to the blog of tom roepke. follower of Jesus. husband to melinda. father to sarah, jedidiah and emmah. pastor of student ministries at new hope community church. much like my friend, samwise, i am just trying to find my place in the Story.
