a 1,000 small choices…

Picture_1.png

still processing much of what transpired while hanging with a few hundred warriors for the Kingdom in the mountains of colorado last week. in the final session john eldredge wrapped up some thoughts and reminded us that a life of freedom in Christ is found in the small choices….gathered together that cause us much difficulty as we journey. it is the small choices that either weaken us or make us strong. And then the choices must be seen in the context of our motives which drives how we relate to those around us. JE used a clip from Kingdom of Heaven to set this clear in our minds. it was the moment in the film where sibyla confronts balian on his rejection of her by rejecting the offer of becoming King. What a crossroads that brings about… to push through to doing the right thing comes with much effort. It is all aobut rejecting sin and living in the freedom of who Christ has made us to be by his sacrifice. Paul says in Romans…

… 7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. …11In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

and from Eph 1

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

the stories that are being told from those that i journeyed with are only bearing this out. the words i’ve gotten from john and team as well as those from Thunder Bunkhouse and even the arrows that have come even to my own heart are amazing, but are not a surprise. There is much afoot in this life. But we must live in the truth of John 10:10

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

standby literally…

DSC_0073_1_1.JPGi’m sitting at home right now, when i should be hanging with some good friends in the shadow of pike’s peak. given the new travel restrictions, there isn’t any margin for the small carriers and even though i had a good 45 minutes to get to the plane i’m going standby on a 6:25am flight tomorrow. not sure if its just a reminder to stop cutting the margins or if its just plain silliness on my part.

but i shared with those that attempted to help me today…that the journey is more important than the destination…and the “what did i learn?” is more important. there’s already been several interesting aspects of this trip and i’m looking forward to see what God does. not sure if i’ll get a chance to post any more before i go but am making a more direct effort to use this blog to shape and share what i’m learning in this journey. the picture above is from a trip the jedster and i made two summers ago to the southern range…collegiate area for a father/teen adventure at spring canyon. my adventure this trip is to go a little deeper in understanding what God desires for his son and therefore for me personally. i’m looking forward to reconnecting with some men i met more than three years ago and wonder what new friendships will come this round.

good friday prayer…

Jesus, as the day of your death draws to a close i pray to find silence in the noise. and in that silence i pray to find your words for my journey this day and ever day to come.

as i commemorated tonite with rose and others your sufferings…i pray that we are all transformed new each day as we embrace

  • The Painful Thorns
  • The Spike of Sin
  • Bitterness
  • Distracting Dice
  • Remember Me
  • The New Covenant

and finally…

  • Light of the WorldDSCN0441_1.jpg

and it is that Light, because of your work this day more than 2000 years ago i am able to reflect, although imperfectly.

Jesus, thank you for your restoring me so that i might live to enjoy life as you intended.

i pray that though i stumble daily i might reflect to others the grace and mercy of all that you desire for them.

Jesus, thank you for your death to vanquish death forever.

Jesus, thank you for your Resurrection that comes to offer us life and encourage us to live so that the we may impact a broken and dying world…to offer the news of the Rescuer that comes and to tell them of your great Love.

Amen and Amen!

mr. consistency

DSC_0074.JPGa great pic of a great group of young men. the jedster, sitting in the front row on the right, got the coach’s award for “mr. consistency”. i know he was surprised by it…which was a very good thing. there was a lot of talent on this year’s team. they didn’t get the public accolades but these guys really grew and well…it was impressive to see.
