we take our 5th tuesday’s at the outpost to invest in the team…a really fun thing to do. we lose a day of work sort of, but gain a better sense of who we’re working with. here’s the fun from this weeks.
chick-a-fila and roadblocks
recently i spent some time with an incredible young couple, dana and tim schmoyer. i’ve gotten to know tim over the past couple of years through his web presence life in student ministry. he has a regular weekly podcast and has also recently put up a cool website ministry questions that is becoming a great new connecting spot for leaders in student ministry. tim has a great mind and equally amazing talent with an incredible heart for impacting the kingdom. his bride dana is equally engaged in the ministry. we metup at a local mall for some chick-a-fila after the #nymc last month. tim invited me to particpate in the following short video blog on staying in ministry for the long term. i’m always humbled when i get to do this stuff. (i have to admit dana & tim reminded me alot of my and my bride melinda’s life together before kids- dana and tim are expecting their first soon.)

had a great conversation last week with tim schmoyer on the podcast he produces. i love tim’s heart and talent for all that he (and his beautiful bride, dana ) are doing to impact the Kingdom. we had a fun conversation and i was blessed to join in his efforts of connecting those who minister to students to the life giving message of Jesus. if you don’t know about his work check him out here…life in student ministry.
if you have time to check out the podcast, i’d be interested to know what things you may do to help focus our senses and intellect to our topic.
you can subscribe to tim’s podcast here via itunes. you can also download this week’s podcast here
nairobi impact
recently i sat down with chris davis the director of global youth ministry network and ken aringo from nairobi, kenya to talk about some of the take aways from the most recent #nymc in columbus. chris has become a friend and we’ve partnered with his work to impact student ministers in liberia. chris spoke about a year ago at one of our 3rd wednesday services and we agreed to help raise money to send trainers into liberia to raise up a new generation of pastors. this clip is as much a testimony to how God is working around the world and how our small work here in “the sticks” can partner with them. ken’s smile was the result of some ministry books i blessed him with. and its worth noting the logo on the bag. ken was sponosred at nymc by our pals at simply youth. and i had just unpacked my purchases and was able to bless ken with additional ministry resources from my personal stock. i’m always picking up extra copies of good books…just for these opportunties. i love paying it forward. enjoy the video. i’ll post another video soon as an update on the work in liberia last summer.
refuel-ed
for the last couple of years i’ve gotten to know doug fields in a more personal way. i knew of his good work because of the book – purpose driven youth ministry he authored a decade ago. it is a must read to understand and develop a healthy ministry with Kindgom impact to students. more recently i’ve been invited into the pdym community. that has afforded the privilege to share in some common dialogue with doug and dozens others from around the country.
most recently at the nymc in columbus, we were given a copy of doug’s newest book “refuel“. although i’m still working through it in a practical way (trying the “this week” action steps in each chapter).
i was excited to get to work on this book as i have a sense it comes straight from doug’s journey these couple of decades in ministry.
so this post is as much to say “thank you” to doug for persevering as it is a hearty endorsement to pick up your copy and push through it. i’ve appreciated doug’s transparency as a leader and believe refuel is a testimony to how God has shown up and will show up in our lives if we concertrate on: stop – be quiet and make a connection.
saddleback is rolling out a three week church wide study in support of the book. they’ve put a very useful website together here. and the video above is from the bloopers that were culled from the small group teaching. fun stuff.
