its the small things…that keeps darkness at bay

TheHobbit_300x300_twitter-skinmelinda and i saw the hobbit today.  lots of good things here.  so worth the wait to have director peter jackson’s good work on telling the story.  brought back many memories of my first reading many years ago with my own fellowship of adventurers.

i’ve heard lots of criticism as to some embellishments that has been taken with the original book.  i’m pretty satisfied.  quite frankly i was surprised with the end credits began as it moved along quite nicely.  can’t wait for the dvd to use this to help many i walk with better understand their place in the Story.

one conversation in the movie that stood out among others is between Galadriel and Gandalf the Grey as to why he choose “the halfling” for this most difficult of journeys. Unlike fellow wizard Saruman who believes in power above all, Gandalf believes “it is the small things, every act of normal folk that keeps the darkness of at bay — simple acts of kindness and love.” He continues: “Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps it is because I am afraid, and he gives me courage.”
